Athens…again.

It’s been six years since I was last in Athens, Greece. In March, 2018 I visited the city for the first time and absolutely fell in love with the vibe, the aesthetic, the people, and of course, the food. Even though I’ve been looking forward to another visit since then, my recent trip was somewhat unexpected. A handful of my teammates at work had been planning a meetup that I was set to attend, and when the most sensical location turned out to be Athens it was a pleasant surprise.

During my 2018 visit, my camera was by my side constantly as I roamed about the city, checked out the sites, and just generally took everything in (in both black and white as well as color). Recently, however, I’ve been struggling to stay as motivated with my photography as illustrated by the fact that it’s been six months since my last post. So while I was excited for this opportunity to get back into the flow of taking photos, it was a wholly different experience for me. I was mostly focused on connecting with my colleagues during the meetup, and when I did think to bring out my camera, I was often using these very patient coworkers of mine as test subjects while I remembered how to use some of my favorite lenses.

The result of this foray back into photography is that the pictures are less focused on Athens and more about my teammates experiencing the city. Having subjects front and center with vibrant backdrops and pleasant bokeh is always nice! But I do feel like I missed an opportunity to document more of my surroundings so many years after my initial visit. Athens remains a city of which I feel like I’ve only just scratched the surface. But even if it’s another six years before I’m back, I’m happy to have used the opportunity to reconnect with photography and find my motivation once again.
